Virtuous Instructions from Divine Truth: How God Guided His Prophets and Delivered His People

Virtuous Instructions from Divine Truth: How God Guided His Prophets and Delivered His People

Introduction: Divine Truth Instructs Humanity

Throughout the Bible, God communicates His will through commandments, divine revelations, prophetic messages, wisdom, warnings, and instructions. Those who receive and faithfully follow God's guidance are called to walk in righteousness, trust His promises, reject evil, and obey His will.

The biblical story is therefore not merely a history of miracles and victories. It is also a history of divine instruction.

God instructed Noah to prepare an ark. God called Abraham to leave his homeland. God instructed Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt. God gave Joshua direction for entering the Promised Land. God answered Daniel's prayers and delivered him from the lions. God gave David victories over his enemies. God granted Solomon wisdom to govern Israel.

These accounts reveal a recurring biblical theme:

God gives instruction, His servants respond in faith and obedience, and God accomplishes His purposes according to His will.

Luke 1:4 expresses the importance of knowing the reliability of received instruction:

“That thou mayest know the verity of those words in which thou hast been instructed.”

— Luke 1:4, Douay-Rheims

The Greek word translated as “verity” is asphaleia (ἀσφάλεια), meaning certainty, assurance, or reliability.

When this idea is considered alongside the biblical accounts of the prophets, it leads to a profound theological principle:

Virtuous instruction aligned with Divine Truth directs human beings toward righteousness, faith, wisdom, courage, and obedience to God.
